Garden Empire Volleyball Association (GEVA)

GEVA is the local Regional Volleyball Authority of USA Volleyball, the national governing body of volleyball, and as such is responsible for the promotion and growth of volleyball in New Jersey, Long Island, and the Greater Metropolitan Area of New York City (to include Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Putnam, and Orange Counties).

How are Volleyball club teams selected?

Bergen Volleyball Club holds annually organized tryouts for each team based on age groups. All players selected to be part of the teams need to try out.

We are looking for committed players who are passionate about the sport, have a positive attitude, are coachable, hard workers, and team players with an intermediate/high skill level.

How are Volleyball Club teams formed?

Bergen Volleyball Club is interested in developing players who have a love for volleyball, and a desire to use their athletic abilities on a team that balances character development as well as volleyball skills.

The Volleyball Club teams are organized by age level and player’s skills. The team rosters will be arranged by ability show at tryouts by the coaches.

PLAYERS SELECTED TO BE PART OF A TEAM (Roster) will be posted on the BVC web page few days after all tryouts are finalized. An offer letter will be mail the same day and the roster needs to accept the offer and pay between 42 hours.

Club volleyball is a higher level of competition and clubs are expected to assemble the best unit of players available.

How many players are on a Volleyball Club Team?

BVC teams have between 9 to 12 players. All players will get the opportunity to play during a match. We believe playing in tournaments is a great experience and a wonderful way to learn and develop the player’s volleyball skills.

What is the practice commitment?

There are 2 practices per week. Each practice is 1.5 hours. Only after we have all our Season teams complete, we will NOT have practice schedules.

What are the tournaments like?

We participate in 4 local full days tournaments within approximately a 90-minute drive. Tournaments are usually held on Saturdays, but sometimes we may play on a Sunday. All tournaments are a FULL DAY event. From 9 am app. To 6:30 pm app.

Please keep in mind that time at tournaments varies, but on average players experience 3-4 matches of game-play, and 1-2 referring matches, depending on how many teams are at a tournament. Every player has to go through GEVA online training for being an upper referee, scorekeeper, line judge, etc. to help learn the rules of competition Tournaments registration and gear (Uniforms and bags) are included in club tuition.

In the winter the Garden Empire Volleyball Association (GEVA) oversees the Club Competitions of our area. BVC is a registered Volleyball Club with our regional association and participates in several tournaments around the North Jersey area.
